Convection Oven
A convection oven is a style of oven that uses fans to circulate heat around food that is being cooked. The circulation of heat removes the outer shielding of cooler air that typically surrounds foods in ovens. As this outer shielding is removed from the currents of air within the convection oven, food warms faster than it would in a standard oven. However, this can cause some problems for those who have never cooked with a convection oven in the past.
The first problem for people who are using a convection oven for the first time is the fact that these ovens do cook foods faster. This means that cooking times must be adjusted unless you are using a recipe designed specifically for convection ovens. How much the cook times need to be adjusted is often dependent on what is being cooked, which can add further complication for those who are not used to the idea of modifying recipes.
When using a convection oven, you may have to do more than adjust the cooking time. You may have to also adjust the temperature at which foods are cooked. Baked dishes, such as some breads, cookies, and pies may require lower cooking temperatures and lower cooking times.
While at first, it may seem that operating a convection oven is difficult. However, as foods tend to be cooked faster, these ovens are extremely useful for those with busy schedules. It allows people to spend less time waiting on foods to cook, and spend more time doing the things that they enjoy.
In addition to this, a convection oven is often designed to be a countertop appliance. This allows you to run your regular stove and a convection oven at the same time. For large meals, such as holiday dinners, a convection oven can help lower the amount of time spent in the kitchen. You can purchase a convection oven that is barely large enough for two pieces of toast, or you can buy one that can fit a turkey or other large, dense roasts.
When you use a convection oven, you need to make certain that you leave approximately an inch and a half on all sides of your roast, pie or other dish to ensure that the fans in your convection oven can effectively circulate the air through the oven. If you fail to allow the air to circulate, your oven will not function properly, and foods may not be cooked evenly on all sides.
